The capability of creating intimacy and protecting one's privacy develops during childhood in a process in which psychological maturing is connected with social influences.
From a psychoanalytical point of view this process stands in connection with the development of shame, guilt and a sense of responsibility.
The experiencing of intimacy and the capability of creating it both represent psychological abilities which are essential to the individuality and autonomy of all human beings.
In this respect intimacy can also become a means of defense against attacks from outside and even against the fascination of one's own exposure.

INTIMITÄT ALS GEGENWEHR

"Die Fähigkeit zur Intimität, zum Schutz der eigenen Privatsphäre, entwickelt sich in der Kindheit in einem Prozess, in dem innerpsychische Reifung mit psychosozialen Einflüssen verbunden ist.
Psychoanalytisch betrachtet ist diese Entwicklung mit der Herausbildung von Scham, Schuld und Verantwortung verknüpft.
Das Erleben von Intimität und die Möglichkeit zur Intimität stellen innerpsychische Fähigkeiten dar, die wesentlich zur Individualität und Autonomie eines jeden Menschen gehören.
Insofern kann Intimität auch zu einem Mittel der Abgrenzung gegen Übergriffe von außen, aber auch gegen die Faszination an der eigenen Selbstentblößung werden."
